The Pros and Cons of Using a Booking Site

In today’s beauty world, booking sites have become a big deal. Many hairstylists, nail techs, and barbers use them to schedule appointments and keep things organized. These websites or apps allow clients to book anytime without calling or texting. That sounds great, right? Well, yes—but let’s take a closer look. There are some good things and some not-so-good things about using a booking site.

Let’s start with the pros.

Booking sites are super convenient. Your clients can book 24 hours a day, even in their pajamas! You can also set your work hours, prices, and services. Everything is in one place—no guessing, no back and forth. Some booking apps even send reminders to clients, so they don’t forget their appointments. This can really help cut down on no-shows.

But here’s one of the biggest cons—booking sites can feel impersonal. They don’t have a heart. When someone books online, there’s no voice, no warm “Hello!” or personal touch. Clients don’t always get to feel who you are. There’s a difference between clicking a button and hearing your stylist’s kind tone or laughter on the phone. A voice brings comfort and connection that a screen just can’t match. Another thing to think about: not everyone uses booking sites. Some older clients may prefer phone calls or even walk-ins. Also, if your booking link is only on social media, what happens if your page gets hacked or goes down? That’s where business cards come in handy. A physical card with your name and number is still important. It’s something a client can hold, give to a friend, or tuck in their wallet. Old school? Maybe. But still effective.

In the end, booking sites are tools—but they should never replace real connection. Voice communication builds trust, loyalty, and relationships that last. Use booking sites to help your business run smoothly, but don’t forget to keep your heart in your brand. Because people don’t just come for the service—they come for you.
